26 new social and affordable homes approved for Kingston

The development application for 26 new two-bedroom townhouses at Kingston has been approved by the Kingborough Council.

Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, our Government is delivering new social and affordable housing across the State.

“The development will deliver safe, secure and quality homes for Tasmanians on low to moderate incomes, helping more people access housing which meets their needs,” Minister Vincent said.

“This development approval is an important step towards delivering more homes for Tasmanians.

“These 26 new homes will provide more housing choice in Kingston and help people who are finding it difficult to secure a suitable and affordable home.

“These will be high-quality, energy-efficient homes designed with residents in mind.

“Good housing is about more than four walls and a roof. These homes will be designed to support comfortable, accessible and connected living.”

The two-storey townhouses will meet the Silver level of the Livable Housing Design Guidelines, supporting people of different ages and abilities.

The homes will be built to a 7-star energy rating, meaning they will require less energy for heating and cooling, helping households manage their energy costs while also reducing their environmental impact.

The development will also include 49 on-site car parking spaces, landscaped communal areas and a connection to the Whitewater Creek Track.
