Gavin Pearce, Minister for Primary Industries and Water
Tasmania’s iconic wild trout fishery will take centre stage when Trout Weekend returns to Liawenee this weekend.
Held at the Inland Fisheries Service Liawenee Field Station from 10 am to 3 pm each day, Trout Weekend will feature displays and exhibits from fishing clubs, community organisations, industry representatives and government agencies.
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, said the free event was a great opportunity for anglers, families and visitors to cast a line.
“This year’s Trout Weekend is set to be one of the best,” Minister Pearce said.
“There’s a range of exhibits and activities on offer, a Trout Weekend 2026 Photo Competition, and our Tasmanian Tagged Trout Promotion.
“Licensed anglers attending can register for photo competition, with more than $4,000 in prizes up for grabs.
“The first eligible angler to catch a tagged rainbow trout from Great Lake and the first eligible angler to catch a tagged brown trout will each win $25,000.
“Other eligible tagged trout caught from Great Lake and other participating waters around Tasmania are worth $5,000 each.
“With Trout Weekend, the photo competition and the chance to catch a tagged trout worth up to $25,000, there is plenty happening for Tasmania’s anglers this season.
“Through our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we’re giving Tasmania’s even more of a reason to get out and enjoy our world-class inland fisheries.”
