Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

In a positive move for businesses and communities TasWater has agreed to the Tasmanian Government’s call for a pause and rethink on excessive price increases.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff has welcomed the decision which follows constructive discussions involving the Tasmanian Government, TasWater, the Tasmanian Economic Regulator and the local government sector.

“We called for relief from excessive increases, and TasWater has responded constructively,” Premier Rockliff said.

“This demonstrates what can be achieved through sensible and mature discussions as we all now focus on securing a fair outcome for the Tasmanian community.

“The pause will provide important relief for affected businesses and community organisations who need our support."

In addition to the broader pause, TasWater has immediately and permanently changed the pricing arrangements for sporting clubs.

“This is a significant and lasting outcome for sporting clubs and the communities they support,” Premier Rockliff said.

“This is an important first step, in a final, long-term solution."

The Government will continue working in good faith with TasWater and its council owners to help secure a fair and sustainable pathway forward.

“That outcome must protect customers from disproportionate impacts while ensuring TasWater can continue investing in the infrastructure Tasmania needs to grow," Premier Rockliff said.

“Keeping costs sustainable will help us build more homes, support Tasmanians to establish and grow businesses, and allow community organisations to continue serving their communities.

“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we will continue working to deliver practical outcomes that make Tasmania an even better place to live, work and do business.”
