Jo Palmer, Minister for Children and Youth

The Tasmanian Government has released Bright Lives: the Roadmap to Uplifting Care, which sets out how we will support improved outcomes for children and young people in out of home Care.

The plan aims to see that every child in Care is known, safe, well, learning, and has the support to heal and thrive.

Minister for Children and Young People, Jo Palmer, said our Government has made significant improvements to the out of home Care system in line with recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry.

“We are continuing to build on that work, ensuring the health and wellbeing of our young people in Care is front and centre,” Minister Palmer said.

“Children and young people in out of home Care are often some of our most vulnerable, and it is absolutely essential the system wraps the right supports around them.

“The Roadmap outlines the next phase of our plan to continue building a Care system that is safe, reliable and centred on the needs of children and young people.”

The Roadmap will see key outcomes delivered, including:

*  Improved needs assessment and care planning for children and young people;

*  Improved support for staff and carers;

*  Enhanced quality and availability of services; and

*  Stronger accountability and shared responsibility across the Care system.
