Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

The Tasmanian Government continues to strengthen its transparency and accountability agenda, with the first tranche of Cabinet decisions publicly released.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said today marks a significant step in our Government’s transparency and accountability agenda.

“More information than ever before is now publicly available under our Government across a range of areas, including health and housing,” the Premier said.

“The routine disclosure of Cabinet decisions is the latest step in our ongoing transparency agenda.”

The disclosure applies to final Cabinet decisions arising from Cabinet Minutes, Cabinet Briefs, Final Bill Briefs, and Government appointments considered by Cabinet.

Some exemptions apply, including matters of national security, matters covered by legal privilege, commercially sensitive information, personal information of individuals, and negotiations between governments.

Tasmania is the second State in Australia to introduce monthly disclosure of Cabinet documents, far exceeding the Federal Government’s 20-year disclosure policy.

The disclosures are uploaded monthly to the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s website.
