Tasmanians and South Australians can once again fly direct between Launceston and Adelaide, with Virgin Australia’s seasonal service resuming today.
Operating three return flights a week, the flights mark the sixth consecutive season the route has operated since it first launched in September 2021.
Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Roger Jaensch, said the return of the service will deliver significant economic benefits for Tasmania and drive new visitation.
"Six seasons on, this service continues to provide a convenient connection between Tasmania and South Australia, giving travellers more choice and better access between our two states,” Minister Jaensch said.
"South Australia is an important visitor market for Tasmania, welcoming around 74,000 visitors a year who spent $228 million in the state in the year to March 2026, and direct air access plays a key role in supporting that demand.
"Our Government continues to work closely with our airline partners like Virgin Australia to connect Tasmania with the rest of the country.”
Tourism Tasmania CEO, Sarah Kingston Clark, said the route gives South Australians a direct path to one of Tasmania's most compelling regions.
"Northern Tasmania offers acclaimed cool-climate wine regions, world-class food and dining, and easy access to iconic experiences such as Cradle Mountain. A direct flight means South Australian travellers can reach our destination in less than two hours, which makes planning a Tasmanian getaway an easy decision,” Mrs Kingston Clark said.
"Our upcoming Come Down For Air campaign will include South Australia as a key travel market, supporting demand for this direct connection and helping drive visitation in the seasons ahead."
Flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until April 2027.
Bookings can be made on Virgin Australia’s website and via travel agents.
