This International Day of Rural Women, the Tasmanian Government is celebrating the incredible contribution women continue to make to our agricultural industries and regional communities.
Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence, Jo Palmer, said our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is delivering for women and girls across Tasmania.
“Women are leading businesses, strengthening communities, developing new ideas and helping shape the future of our agricultural and rural industries,” Minister Palmer said.
“Everyday, I hear another inspiring story about the women and girls doing extraordinary things around our state.
“This International Day of Rural Women – and everyday – we celebrate them and their successes.”
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, said the day was also an opportunity to encourage more people to nominate Tasmanian women for the 2027 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award.
“For more than 25 years, the AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award has recognised and supported women who are making a positive difference across rural, regional and remote Australia,” Minister Pearce said.
“I encourage anyone who knows a Tasmanian woman who is leading a project, business, initiative or community program to consider nominating them for this award.”
Applications for the 2027 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award are now open and close on Wednesday, 4 November 2026.
