Felix Ellis, Minister for Skills and Jobs
The Tasmanian Government is taking the financial pressure off apprentices and trainees as they complete their training, as part of the 2026-27 Tasmanian Government Concessions and Discount Guide.
Minister for Skills and Jobs, Felix Ellis, said the Government was committed to helping trainees achieve their goals as we deliver the workforce we need for the future.
“Like many Tasmanians, our more than 7,300 apprentices and trainees are feeling the pinch of high cost-of-living, particularly when it comes to obtaining the training they need to complete their trade,” Minister Ellis said.
“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, the 2026-27 Tasmanian Government Concessions and Discounts Guide offers a wide range of concessions and discounts on the cost of government services for eligible Tasmanians.
“There are concessions available for housing, electricity, transport, education, health, licences, vehicles, parks and heritage as well as property, water and land tax.
“Apprentice and trainee travel allowances are just one example of how we are reducing the pressure and helping more people complete their training.
“Apprentices and trainees can receive a per kilometre allowance for travel for off-the-job training, and overnight accommodation allowance when travel is 61km or more each way.
“We are responsive to the needs of Tasmanian learners and that is why we are providing assistance with their off-the-job travel requirements to ease the squeeze on the cost of living.
