Roger Jaensch, Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events

Tasmania’s iconic midwinter festival Dark Mofo will return to Hobart in June 2027.

Through our Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, the Tasmanian Government is investing in events like Dark Mofo to drive visitation, help keep our economy strong and support the one in six Tasmanian jobs in the tourism and hospitality industries.

Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Roger Jaensch, said Dark Mofo showcased Tasmania as Australia's leading winter destination, with world-class music, art, performances, food experiences and public installations bringing Hobart to life throughout winter.

“From arts and performances to music and food, there is something for everyone at Dark Mofo,” Minister Jaensch said.

“We know Dark Mofo is a major drawcard for visitors to Tasmania, with this year’s festival attracting nearly 116,000 individual visitors and generating more than $71.8 million for our State’s economy.

"These visitors didn't just take part in the festivities, they explored our island home too, spreading the benefits across the State.

“Our investment in Dark Mofo also backs Tasmania’s tourism, hospitality and events industries, helping to build an even better Tasmania.”

Dark Mofo 2027 will open on a Wednesday night with First Nations–led celebration The Gathering – adding an extra night to the festivities.

“After a stellar program in 2026, I can’t wait to see what the team has in store for us next year,” Minister Jaensch said.

Dark Mofo 2027 will take place from 9 to 22 June.

The full 2027 Dark Mofo 2027 festival program will be shared early next year.
