Jo Palmer, Minister for Education
The Tasmanian Government is encouraging people to curl up with a good book this winter, with pre-registrations now open for Libraries Tasmania’s winter reading challenge, Warm Winter Read.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the challenge is open to Tasmanians aged 16 and over and is a fantastic way to support literacy, well being and community connection during the colder months.
“Warm Winter Read is a simple and enjoyable way for Tasmanians to discover new books, revisit old favourites and make reading part of their winter routine,” Minister Palmer said.
“I encourage Tasmanians to join the challenge, support our libraries and perhaps discover their next favourite read along the way.”
Minister Palmer said the Warm Winter Read is an example of how the Government is Lifting Literacy for all Tasmanians.
“Whether people pick up a novel, listen to an audiobook or revisit an old favourite, every page read helps strengthen literacy skills and encourages a lifelong love of reading,” Minister Palmer said.
“Our Government is delivering for Tasmanians by improving literacy outcomes across the State.
“When we encourage people to make reading part of their winter routine, we’re helping to build a culture of lifelong learning and improve literacy outcomes for all Tasmanians.”
The 2026–27 Budget includes $195 million for Libraries Tasmania to continue providing welcoming community hubs that support learning, connection and opportunity for Tasmanians of all ages.
“Libraries Tasmania is delivering real outcomes for communities across the State, and this funding ensures it is able to remain strong, modern and accessible,” Minister Palmer said.
