Jo Palmer, Minister for Education

The Tasmanian Government is delivering expanded access to before and after school care for families at Howrah, Beaconsfield and Forth through a $10 million investment.

Howrah Primary School, Beaconsfield Primary School and Forth Primary School have been announced as the first schools to receive Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) capital upgrades under the program.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said access to OSHC services help to ease pressure on working families and support children to thrive in safe, supportive learning environments beyond the school day.

“For many families, reliable before and after school care is essential to balancing work and caring responsibilities,” Minister Palmer said.

“This investment will make a real difference for working families, particularly in areas where access to care has been limited or demand continues to grow.

“Our Government is getting on with the job of delivering more OSHC services throughout Tasmania.”

Final details on the delivery of the projects at Howrah, Beaconsfield and Forth Primary Schools, including the number of additional places at each school will be confirmed by the end of Term 2, 2026.

The OSHC services are expected to be delivered by the 2028 school year.
