Eric Abetz, Minister for Macquarie Point Urban Renewal
The contract to pack the Goods Shed down has been awarded to respected Australian builders Hunter Mason.
The awarded contract will see the Goods Shed carefully dismantled, packed, stored and then reconstructed as part of the stadium precinct.
The contract to deliver bulk earthwork removal has been delivered to Tasmanian firm Hazell Brothers.
Minister for Macquarie Point Urban Renewal, Eric Abetz, said we are getting on with the job of delivering Macquarie Point.
"As a first step, Hunter Mason will be working closely with Heritage Tasmania ahead of works commencing," Minister Abetz said.
"The precinct around Macquarie Point will soon begin to take shape in what is a truly exciting milestone.
"Hazell Brothers will deliver the bulk earthworks that are required to prepare the site for the entire precinct.
"The Goods Shed will become an iconic part of the stadium precinct - offering what will be a fantastic hospitality space for patrons to enjoy ahead of an event at the stadium.
"This is also about ensuring the heritage of the area is respected and incorporated into future plans, giving what will truly be a uniquely Tasmanian experience."
As part of these works, the Red Shed will also be removed from the site, with salvage and conservation efforts undertaken wherever practical. Materials and heritage elements that can be retained will be carefully recovered and assessed for re-use within the future stadium and precinct development.
"On site excavation works are expected to begin in July."
