Jane Howlett, Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
Launceston has today been named one of Australia’s 10 best winter holiday destinations by Expedia, one of the world's largest online travel booking platforms.
The recognition comes after a partnership between Tourism Tasmania and Expedia to promote winter accommodation and experiences across the state as part of the Off Season campaign.
Expedia’s bookings data showed Launceston provides strong value for money during winter, with its world-class food and dining scene, slower pace and natural values earning its place in the list.
Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Jane Howlett, said the result is a win for Launceston and the north, with further proof our tourism industry delivers for Tasmania’s economy.
"Launceston has so much to offer visitors during winter, from great food and wine, historic charm and a strong events calendar,” Minister Howlett said.
“This recognition confirms Launceston is truly punching above its weight as a destination during the Off Season.
“Having Launceston featured in Expedia’s top 10 winter destinations puts Northern Tasmania in front of millions of travellers who are actively planning their next trip, which is great news for local tourism and hospitality businesses.
“This announcement comes off the back of Bicheno being named the Best Town in Australia on Tuesday. Tassie has what the Nation wants.”
