The Tasmanian Government has awarded the contract for the construction of the new Burnie Courts Complex to Fairbrother, signalling a major step forward in delivering this important project.
Fairbrother is a respected Tasmanian business with a long and successful history of delivering major projects right across the state.
Attorney-General, Guy Barnett, said our Government is delivering for Tasmanians, ensuring access to justice in the North West of the State by providing contemporary fit-for-purpose infrastructure for the community.
“This project will help revitalise the Burnie CBD, delivering jobs and investment for the North West,” the Attorney-General said.
“We will keep the community updated as this significant project continues to progress.”
Importantly, the new court complex will:
- Ensure access to justice for the North West community through the provision of two Magistrates Courts, one Supreme Court and one flexible multi-jurisdictional Court;
- Improve safety and amenity for all court-users;
- Improve disability access; and
- Enable contemporary functioning of the facilities, including through the use of technology.
The replacement Complex will be constructed at 106 Wilson Street in Burnie’s Central Business District.
