Guy Barnett, Attorney-General
The Justice and Related Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill (No. 2) 2025 has passed the House of Assembly.
Attorney-General, Guy Barnett, said the Bill contains a series of practical and targeted amendments across Tasmania’s justice and regulatory framework.
“Our Government is delivering for Tasmanians, ensuring our legislative framework remains clear, contemporary and functions as intended,” the Attorney said.
“The amendments respond to issues identified by agencies, courts and other stakeholders, and will help improve the day-to-day operation of a range of Acts.”
Amendments include:
- Clarifying the operation of provisions in the Criminal Code relating to sexual offences;
- Ensuring appropriate evidentiary safeguards apply to victims of persistent family violence;
- Clarifying the criteria for interim high risk offender orders;
- Clarifying forensic procedure laws in relation to information sharing, including for the purposes of the National Criminal Intelligence System;
- Updating gas safety and occupational licensing laws to cover emerging hydrogen fuel cell vehicle technology;
- Amendments to support implementation of the National Code of Conduct for unregistered health care workers; and
- Streamlining the administration of the Justices of the Peace Act 2018, including reappointment processes.
“Taken together, these amendments are sensible improvements that enhance public safety, strengthen clarity in the law, and improve the efficiency of important administrative processes,” the Attorney said.
