Guy Barnett, Deputy Premier

The Tasmanian Government has convened an industry and business roundtable regarding fuel supply.

Despite the situation in the Middle East, Tasmania’s fuel supply is secure, and this was reiterated at the roundtable.

Deputy Premier, Guy Barnett, has written to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) urging them to proactively warn against price gouging or anti-competitive behaviour in the fuel market.

“We know the rising cost of fuel impacts Tasmanian families, businesses and our agriculture sector,” the Deputy said.

“Our Government is continuing to work together with industry, and I appreciate their ongoing feedback.

“I have written to the ACCC and urged them to proactively warn against price gouging or anti-competitive behaviour in the fuel market, ensuring Tasmanians are not unfairly impacted by global events.

“Tasmania’s liquid fuel supply is in a secure state, with sufficient supply on island and more currently on the way. There is no need to stockpile fuel.

“People should continue to buy fuel in the same way they always have – when they need it.

“We will continue to engage with the Federal Government.

“This is a trying time for many, but together, we can sensibly work through the challenges in front of us.”
