Two Tasmanian students have been named the recipients of the 2026 Cameron Baird VC MG Scholarship, each receiving $2,500 to support their continued education in years 11 or 12.
Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Gavin Pearce, who served in the ADF for 20 years, said the scholarship honours the legacy of one of Australia’s most respected soldiers.
“This year’s recipients, Lilly Huett and Feona Jobi Cheri, were selected for the strength, creativity, and sincerity of their submissions,” Minister Pearce said.
“Each expressed a clear connection to Cameron’s values and a strong vision for how the scholarship will support their education.
“I congratulate both students and thank all applicants for their thoughtful and inspiring contributions.”
The scholarship invites young Tasmanians to reflect on Cameron’s motto of “aspire to inspire” and to consider how his values can guide their own lives.
“Cameron was not only a warrior, but a man of extraordinary character,” Minister Pearce said.
“His dedication to service, his courage in battle, and the values he lived by continue to inspire Australians every day.
“This scholarship honours one of our best, ensuring Cameron’s legacy is carried forward by our next generations who take the time to learn his story, reflect on his motto and consider what leadership and service mean in their own lives.”
