Guy Barnett, Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs

Local Tasmanian whisky distilleries have achieved outstanding results at the prestigious World Whisky Awards overnight.

Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, said Tasmania’s reputation as a premium whisky producer has been further strengthened.

“Sullivans Cove delivered a remarkable performance, taking out the title of World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt along with securing two Icons of Whisky awards - reinforcing its position as one of the world’s leading distilleries,” Minister Barnett said.

“In further success for the state, Greenbanks was also recognised on the global stage, winning for its single rye whisky.

“These results highlight the strength, quality and growing international recognition of Tasmania’s whisky industry.

“The success comes as Tasmania continues to build and promote its premium food and beverage sector, with whisky playing an increasingly important role in export growth, tourism and regional development.

Tasmania’s whisky industry continues to go from strength to strength, delivering world-class products, creating jobs, and showcasing the State’s unique brand to a global audience.

“With 82 distilleries supporting more than 450 full-time equivalent jobs, the sector is globally renowned and built on decades of international awards and a hard-earned reputation for quality,” Minister Barnett said.

“Tasmania’s distinctive climate, pristine water and natural environment provide ideal conditions for whisky maturation, enabling the production of highly value-added products.

“The industry contributes approximately $300 million to the Tasmanian economy through tourism, hospitality and agriculture.

“With the right support and partnerships, our Government is helping our distillers access new markets, connect with global buyers and grow their export potential.

“It’s about delivering for Tasmania - supporting jobs, growing trade and building our global reputation.

“Tasmania’s whisky story is no longer emerging, it is leading the world.”
