Tasmanians are being encouraged to recognise the essential work of bus drivers today as part of Bus Driver Appreciation Day.

The day provides an opportunity to acknowledge the commitment of our bus operators, who help keep communities connected by getting thousands of Tasmanians where they need to go every day.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said he was proud to acknowledge the essential work of Tasmania’s bus operators.

“On behalf of the Tasmanian Government and every Tasmanian who catches a bus, thank you to our dedicated bus drivers for keeping our communities connected,” Minister Vincent said.

“While we encourage Tasmanians to thank their driver every day, today is a special opportunity to acknowledge the people who get thousands of us where we need to go, safely, reliably, and with professionalism.

"Thank you to all of our bus drivers, you're delivering a service many Tasmanians cannot live without."

Metro CEO Jessica Paton said drivers play a vital role in the lives of passengers across the state.

“Our bus drivers are driven to make a difference. Every day, they support our communities by delivering safe, reliable and friendly services," Ms Paton said.

“Today is a great opportunity for our customers to show their appreciation.”

Bus Driver Appreciation Day is held on 18 March, believed to be the date when the world’s first bus service began operating in Paris in 1662.
