Tasmania’s major events are continuing to deliver strong outcomes for the State’s economy, attracting thousands of visitors and generating millions in spending across the summer period.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said major events like the Foo Fighters concert provided an enormous economic injection into the State, with more than 24,000 attendees injecting almost $7.8 million into the economy.
“Events like the sellout Foo Fighters concert are major drawcards for visitors to our State and the positive impact they have on our visitor economy cannot be understated,” the Premier said.
“We saw a record 771,100 visitors to Northern Tasmania in the year ending September 2025, up 11 per cent from the previous year.
“These visitors are filling our hotels, motels and short-stay accommodation, eating at our pubs, cafes and restaurants, and supporting businesses right across Tasmania as they experience what our State has to offer.
“Our Government is delivering for Tasmania by investing in major events that drive visitation, help keep our economy strong and support the one in six Tasmanians employed in the tourism and hospitality industry.”
Liberal Member for Rosevears, Jo Palmer, said major events strengthen Tasmania’s reputation in the music sector, and enable increased visitation to our regional areas.
“When visitors come to Tasmania for major events, many take the opportunity to explore beyond our cities and experience our amazing regions like the Tamar Valley,” Minister Palmer said.
“That means more people visiting our wineries, restaurants and tourism attractions, and enjoying everything these areas have to offer.
“Businesses right across our community benefit when Tasmania’s visitor economy is strong, from hospitality venues through to accommodation providers and tourism operators.”
Tasmania’s tourism industry continues to go from strength to strength, with the latest progress report of the 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy outlining key achievements from July to December 2025.
The report shows growth in Tasmania as a winter destination, 50,000 additional air seats between Hobart and Melbourne, a new seasonal route from Hobart to Newcastle, completed the Flinders Island campground upgrades, an endorsement from Gordon Ramsay, and much more.
