Tasmania’s next generation of swimming superstars will be on show this weekend.
Swimmers aged eight years and older will dive into the 67th Long Course Swimming Championships in Hobart.
Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Engagement and Sport, Rob Fairs, said the annual event is Tasmania’s premier long-course competition, and provides competitors the opportunity to post qualifying times for national events.
“It is a credit to be a state champion, or to race in a final for the championships, and local swimming champions Ariarne Titmus, Max Giuliani and Jacob Templeton all made their start in Tasmania,” Mr Fairs said.
“Events such as the Long Course Championships are key to the development and success of Tasmanian swimmers.
“Our Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Swimming Tasmania and the important work it does in growing participation, providing education and training opportunities, and ensuring swimming is a safe, fun and inclusive sport.”
This year’s event coincides with International Women’s Day, highlighting the importance of women’s participation in sports.
“Women and girls continue to be under-represented across all levels of sport, and so increasing their participation and leadership is a high priority for the Tasmanian Government,” Mr Fairs said.
“The recently launched Tasmanian Women and Girls Sport Strategy 2026–2032 and the Government’s Her Path to Play program is focused on delivering better opportunities for women and girls to access and participate in sport and active recreation in Tasmania."
The Long Course Swimming Championships runs from Friday 6 March to Monday 9 March 2026 at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre.
