Guy Barnett, Attorney-General
The Tasmanian Government is continuing to call on the Federal Government to slash the fuel excise and provide real cost of living relief for Tasmanians.
Deputy Premier, Guy Barnett, said the Federal Government needs to move with greater pace and clarity.
“If we want fuel prices to go down, the Federal Government needs to step up,” the Deputy said.
“Fuel excise is a Federal Government tax that adds 52.6c per litre to the price of petrol.
“They are the only ones that can reduce that burden.
“Slashing the fuel excise will provide real cost of living relief for Tasmanians.
“Tasmania’s fuel supply remains secure, with sufficient fuel on island and more shipments on the way.
“Our Liberal Government, with the support of both houses of Parliament, has delivered strong new laws to protect Tasmanians.
“But a national issue needs a national approach.
“We need to see the Federal Government step up and help ease the pain Tasmanians are feeling at the bowser.
"Will the Winter-Willie opposition back our calls for a fuel excise reduction or does Labor support higher petrol prices?"
