Upgrades to the Ferndene walking track in the state’s North West are now complete, improving accessibility for Tasmanians and visitors alike.

The works included improvements to the Ferndene to Thoresbys Tunnel track, ensuring the track is now a wheelchair-standard nature trail.

Three bridges with an elevated boardwalk and viewing platform have also been installed along the banks of McBrides Creek.

Acting Minister for Parks, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the completed works are another example of our Government delivering for Tasmania.

“The Tasmanian Government is committed to improving our walking tracks in the Dial Range,” Minister Ogilvie said.

“These upgrades have delivered increased accessibility for people of all abilities to view and participate in this incredible walk.”

The Ferndene walking track upgrades were completed by local contractor AJR Construct Pty Ltd, including removal of the old walking track infrastructure.

From the viewing platform, visitors to the Ferndene walking track can continue into the Dial Range Reserves.

The Tasmanian Government is investing $1.6 million in unique experiences in the Dial Range Reserves.

This funding includes upgrades to the walking track circuit from the summit of Mount Dial to Mount Gnomon.
