Tasmanians will receive a taste of international cricket as Australia takes on England in Hobart later this year.

Acting Minister for Sport, Gavin Pearce, said Cricket Australia’s announcement was exciting.

“There is nothing Australians love more than a match against England on home soil,” Minister Pearce said.

“The matches are a great opportunity for Tasmanians to experience elite sport in their home state.

“The Tasmanian Government has been a strong supporter of cricket over many years and has provided significant funding for facility developments and upgrades.

“Our Government is getting on with the job of keeping our economy strong and providing inspiration for the next generation of players.”

The Tasmanian Government’s $3.56 million commitment to Cricket Tasmania has delivered grassroots programs and strengthened development pathways for players, umpires and coaches, while also supporting elite programs.

“We want to see more young Tasmanians picking up a bat or ball which is why we’re delivering this funding. We are backing the dreams of the have generations of Tassie kids who want to wear the baggy green or play for Tasmania,” Minister Pearce said.

Australia takes on England for the ODI at Ninja Stadium on November 18 from 2.30pm.
