Guy Barnett, Attorney-General
Tasmanians are invited to have their say as part of Mr Lloyd Babb SC’s work to tackle court backlogs in Tasmania.
Mr Babb is focusing on applying a systems approach to managing existing court backlogs, identifying strategies and mechanisms to support case flow, and developing a framework to measure the effectiveness of any new strategies.
Attorney-General, Guy Barnett, said our Liberal Government is taking action to deliver an efficient and effective justice system.
“Court delays, particularly in criminal matters, have real and lasting impacts, including on victim-survivors,” the Attorney said.
“While the Government and Courts have implemented various strategies to reduce backlogs, ongoing pressures remain and require a sustained, system-wide response.
“Access to justice is a cornerstone of our society, and Mr Babb’s work is supporting the operation of the legal system by identifying practical solutions to reduce delays, improve efficiency, and ensure timely outcomes for all court users.
“I want to thank Mr Babb for taking on this role, and urge members of their community to have their say and make a submission.”
Public consultation will be open for approximately four weeks, from 18 March to 15 April 2026.
Submissions can be made through the Department of Justice’s community consultation website at https://www.justice.tas.gov.au/community-consultation.
