The Tasmanian Government is delivering for Tasmanians, with access to a range of rheumatology and persistent pain services increasing across the State.
Permanent rheumatology and enhanced persistent pain services are now in place in Northern Tasmania, including the recruitment of new specialist rheumatology positions.
This will ensure improved access for people living in the North and North-West.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said the Tasmanian Government recognises and understands the importance of specialist services for people living with musculoskeletal conditions, including persistent pain, and is committed to providing equitable access to these services for Tasmanians right across the State.
“I am pleased to welcome rheumatologist Dr Anne Powell who has commenced work at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH),” Minister Archer said.
“People living in the State’s North now have access to a newly established consultant-led rheumatology service, based at the LGH, with arrangements being finalised for a second rheumatologist to commence work in the coming months.
“In addition, we have strengthened our partnerships with the private sector and are providing access to consultant-led pain management services for public patients in Burnie, Devonport, and Launceston.
"Our Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania, with this program complementing services already provided in these regions such as the Overcoming Pain and Living Life Persistent Pain 10-week course.
“We are delivering the care Tasmanians need, when and where they it, with these important expanded services.”
