Tasmanians will be able to rally behind the Socceroos in the early hours of Saturday morning, with premises holding a general or club license across Tasmania to be granted extended trading hours so they can play Australia's World Cup clash against Egypt.
The extension will allow these licensed venues wishing to broadcast the match to remain open overnight and continue trading until the match is over.
The match kicks off at 4am Tasmania time, with thousands of supporters expected to rise early to cheer on the green and gold.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said Tasmania and the nation are united behind the Socceroos.
"The Socceroos have inspired the nation and this weekend Tasmania will be right behind them," Premier Rockliff said.
"This is about our community rallying together to support our team on the world-stage at your local venue.
"Major sporting moments like this bring people together and provide a welcome boost for our hospitality businesses, which play such an important role in communities right across our State.
"Whether you're in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie or elsewhere across Tasmania, I encourage everyone to get behind the Socceroos and support your local venue.
"Our venues do an outstanding job, and this extension ensures football fans have the option to experience this historic occasion together.
"The Socceroos have shown tremendous determination throughout this tournament and now it's our turn to show our support.
"Bring your scarf, wear your colours and let's get behind Australia."
