Keeping the North West moving with new Smithton Truck Wash

A new truck wash facility at Smithton is now complete, backing in those who keep our State moving.

The three-bay washdown facility has been designed to meet the growing needs of the livestock transport sector in Tasmania's far North West.

The $2.5 million project was jointly funded by the Tasmanian Government, Federal Government, and TasWater.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, said through our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we’re backing those who put food on the table.

“These new facilities are a gamechanger for the region,” Minister Pearce said.

“Without our trucks, Tassie would grind to a halt.

“This new truck wash will keep them in good nick, get them back on the road faster, and serve as an important biosecurity measure.

"These facilities will serve our communities for years to come, keeping our trucks, roads, and livestock safe and clean.”

Federal Member for Braddon, Anne Urquhart, said the new Smithton Truck Wash is a practical investment for farmers and transport operators in the Circular Head region and beyond.

“Protecting our biosecurity is so important for our region, and the truck wash will support this while also improving road safety and protecting animal welfare,” Ms Urquhart said.

The upgraded facility includes two washdown bays dedicated to livestock vehicles and has been designed to meet the needs of the region's livestock transport industry well into the future.

The site's owner also contributed to the project by funding new rest facilities for truck drivers, while the upgrade works were delivered by a Burnie-based contractor, supporting local jobs and businesses.
