Guy Barnett, Attorney-General

The Tasmanian Government is taking strong action to strengthen Tasmania’s integrity framework, today opening public feedback on the draft Integrity Commission Amendment Bill 2026.

The Bill proposes reforms to the Integrity Commission Act 2009, including amendments that will implement 33 recommendations from the Independent Cox Review and makes operational improvements identified by the Integrity Commission. This work also supports the findings of the Independent Weiss Review.

Attorney-General, Guy Barnett, said our Government is delivering for Tasmanians by ensuring we have a robust and transparent integrity system that protects the public interest and supports accountability across government.

“The proposed changes aim to streamline procedures, clarify powers, enhance procedural fairness, and strengthen processes and safeguards around the Integrity Commission’s investigative functions,” the Attorney said.

“We are delivering on our commitment to progress Integrity reforms as a priority, building on the Integrity Amendment (Mandatory Notifications) Bill 2025 which has already been introduced to Parliament.

“This is an important opportunity for Tasmanians to have their say on reforms that will strengthen integrity and public trust in our institutions.

“This Bill proposes implementing a large number of recommendations of the Cox Review, so it is important that we undertake extensive consultation to ensure the proposed reforms will work as intended and enhance the integrity framework for Tasmania.”

The Bill is available at www.justice.tas.gov.au/communityconsultation. An extended period of public consultation is open until Thursday 2 April 2026.
