Madeleine Ogilvie,

Acting Minister for Parks,

An opportunity to run the Low Head Historic Site will become available for the first time in a decade later this year.
Acting Minister for Parks, Madeleine Ogilvie, said this will be a unique opportunity to find a new operator for one of Tasmania’s most distinctive heritage properties.
“Our State has a rich built heritage, with many iconic sites managed by the Tasmanian Government for the benefit of all Tasmanians,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“The Low Head Historic Site is an outstanding example of this, offering visitors the chance to learn about our State’s fascinating seafaring history at the Pilot Station Museum, grab something to eat from the onsite cafe, and stay in unique accommodation.
“Proponents interested in running the site will need to show they have a vision for what it can be, as well as the necessary practical skills, experience and financial capacity to run a complex tourism venture.
“They will also need to demonstrate an understanding of the historical significance of Low Head, and a commitment to work with the volunteers who play a vital role in showcasing our history.
“Our Liberal Government is committed to providing local businesses with the opportunity to work with us on the management and operation of one of Tasmania’s most significant historic properties.”
Expressions of Interest will be evaluated by an independent panel who will recommend a preferred proponent.
The lease and license arrangements governing these partnerships are designed to deliver the best outcomes through appropriate conditions and fixed terms.
To give potential operations a time to consider the opportunity, the formal EOI process will open in coming months.
