Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs

The Tasmanian Government is progressing a new Carer Action Plan to better recognise and support the more than 80,000 unpaid carers across the State.
Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the new plan will set future priorities to improve support and recognition of carers.
“Carers make an extraordinary contribution to our community, as well as the health, wellbeing and security of family members and friends who they support,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“This new Action Plan will ensure their voices continue to be heard.
“Our Government is working closely with Carers Tasmania to help shape the plan, including consulting directly with carers across the State and building on insights shared by lived experience members of the Minister’s Carer Advisory Council.
“The combined input will identify the key priorities for the new Plan."
The new Carer Action Plan will build on the progress achieved under the previous plan, including:
  • Legislated recognition of carers;
  • Greater inclusion of carers’ lived experience in Government decision making through the establishment of the Minister’s Carer Advisory Council; and
  • Improved awareness, understanding and support for carers across government agencies and services.
The plan will be released later this year.
