Jane Howlett, Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
International cricket has returned to Tasmania this week, with Australia taking on India in two world-class women’s matches at Ninja Stadium.
Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Jane Howlett, said the matches were a great opportunity for Tasmanians to experience elite women’s sport in their home state.
“We are delivering for Tasmania by investing in women’s sport, and today’s match is a fantastic celebration of international women’s cricket,” Minister Howlett said.
“Women and girls across Tasmania are taking up cricket in growing numbers, and this is a great opportunity to see some of the world’s best players in action right here at home.
“Our Government is getting on with the job of keeping our economy strong and providing inspiration for the next generation of players.”
The Tasmanian Government’s $3.56 million commitment to Cricket Tasmania has enhanced grassroots programs and strengthened development pathways for players, umpires and coaches, while also supporting elite programs.
