The Tasmanian Government is inviting young people aged 16-21 to play a central role in shaping the future of children’s advocacy in Tasmania, following the passage of the Commission for Children and Young People Act 2025.
A Youth Selection Panel will be established to appoint the leaders of the new Commission for Children and Young People, a key recommendation of the Commission of Inquiry.
Attorney-General, Guy Barnett, said this will ensure the voices, perspectives and lived experiences of young Tasmanians are at the heart of the Commission’s appointment process.
“The Youth Selection Panel will work alongside a senior selection panel providing a unique opportunity for young Tasmanians to decide who will champion their rights, safety and wellbeing,” the Attorney said.
“Participation on the panel will also equip young people with valuable experience and skills, supporting their future education and employment pathways.
“We’re encouraging young people from right across the State to put their hand up and play an important role in the future of children and young people in Tasmania.
“I look forward to providing further updates as we progress the important establishment of the new Commission for Children and Young People.”
Further EOI processes will be undertaken to support the recruitment of the Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People and the Child Advocate later in 2026.
The EOI information is available on the Department of Justice’s website www.justice.tas.gov.au
