Winter events helping drive Tasmania’s visitor economy

The Tasmanian Government is celebrating record-breaking occupancy figures in June for accommodation venues across the State, with a strong calendar of winter events helping attract visitors and support local businesses.

Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Roger Jaensch, said the latest Hospitality Tasmania accommodation figures show statewide occupancy reached 64.62 per cent in June, the second-highest June on record and up 2.09 per cent on the same month last year.

“Tourism and hospitality are vital parts of Tasmania’s economy, supporting jobs, businesses and communities right across the State,” Minister Jaensch said.

“These June results are encouraging and show that visitors continue to choose Tasmania as a place to experience our incredible food and wine, landscapes, and culture.

“Events are an important part of attracting visitors during the winter months, delivering flow-on benefits for accommodation providers, restaurants, cafes and tourism operators.

“Which is why the Tasmanian Government is continuing to invest in events like Dark Mofo, the Tassie Scallop Feista, Festival of Voices and Island Escape Festival that encourage visitation, support local businesses and strengthen our visitor economy.

“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are creating more reasons for people to visit Tasmania, stay longer and explore more of our State.”
