Nick Duigan, Minister for Sport

The next generation of coaches will continue developing world-class athletes through a scholarship program delivered by the Tasmanian Government.

Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said each year the Tasmanian Institute of Sport invests in local coaches through the Coaching Centre Scholarship Program, which provides structured coach development, mentoring and leadership opportunities.

“We are building the State’s coaching capability, with the program underpinned by the philosophy of Better Coaches. Better Environments. Better Performance. Strong coaches build strong athletes,” Minister Duigan said.

“This program strengthens Tasmania’s coaching landscape. It ensures Tasmanian coaches have access to the learning, networks and experiences they need to thrive. In turn, they help our athletes reach their full potential.

“This year, 10 coaches have been awarded scholarships across the three categories. This year’s cohort are from six sports: athletics, badminton, boccia, hockey, rowing and swimming.

“I wish each of our new coaching scholarships holders the best for the coming year and look forward to seeing the impact they have on Tasmanian sport across their coaching careers.

“The Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is all about ensuring the resources people need to live, work and raise a family in our State are available. These scholarships are part of making that a reality.”

The program includes the Coaching Centre Scholarship, the Women in Sport Coaching Scholarships, and the Para Coaching Support Scholarship.

Scholarship recipients undertake practical learning including intra and interstate training camps, competitions, professional development activities and opportunities to observe high performance coaching.
