The Preliminary Outcomes Report 2025-26 shows Tasmania's net debt is down.
Treasurer Eric Abetz said the report highlighted the importance of the Government's plan for fiscal sustainability.
"The report shows that net debt at 30 June 2026 was $6.5 billion, around $310 million lower than forecast in the 2026-27 Budget," the Treasurer said.
"It also shows the Fiscal Balance improved by $15.2 million compared to the estimated outcome.
"While these are welcome results, the report also demonstrates why fiscal discipline remains essential.
"Demand for the frontline services Tasmanians expect and deserve continues to grow, and that’s why we are investing in these essential services.
"We have also delivered significant wage outcomes for doctors, police, teachers and other frontline workers, which are reflected in this result."
The Treasurer said the Government's focus remained on implementing its fiscal strategy while continuing to invest in the services Tasmanians rely upon.
"The 2026-27 Budget sets out a clear pathway back to sustainability," the Treasurer said.
"Our fiscal strategy is focused on moderating expenditure growth, delivering operational efficiencies and restoring the sustainability of the State's finances over time while investing in frontline services.
"There is work ahead, and that’s why we are taking responsible action.
"This report reinforces why budget discipline matters and why the Government will continue to focus on improving the State's financial position for future generations."
