Monthly disclosure of Cabinet documents announced

The Tasmanian Government continues to strengthen its transparency and accountability agenda, announcing that final Cabinet decisions will be publicly released from 1 September 2026.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the monthly disclosure scheme will apply to final decisions of Cabinet.

“We are strengthening transparency and accountability across Government,” Premier Rockliff said.

“More information than ever before is now publicly available under our Government across a range of areas, including health and housing.

“The routine disclosure of Cabinet decisions is the latest step in our ongoing transparency agenda.”

The disclosure scheme will apply to final Cabinet decisions arising from Cabinet Minutes, Cabinet Briefs, Final Bill Briefs, and Government appointments considered by Cabinet.

Some exemptions will apply, including matters of national security, matters covered by legal privilege, commercially sensitive information, personal information of individuals, and negotiations between governments.

Tasmania is the second State in Australia to introduce monthly disclosure of Cabinet documents, far exceeding the Federal Government’s 20-year disclosure policy.

The disclosures will be uploaded monthly to the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s website.
