Common sense win for rural Tasmanians 

The Tasmanian Government has welcomed Team Global Express’ commitment to reverse its decision to cease deliveries to a number of rural Tasmanian communities.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, said the decision was a win for rural Tasmanians and common sense.

“This is a very welcome outcome for people living and doing business in rural and regional Tasmania,” Minister Barnett said.

“Reliable freight and parcel delivery services are crucial in rural communities, where residents and small businesses may otherwise face hours of travel simply to collect an item they have paid to have delivered.

“I thank Team Global Express Executive Chair Christine Holgate for taking the time to come to Tasmania, listening to the concerns raised on behalf of our regional communities and acting quickly to find a way forward.

“I also want to acknowledge Miena resident Michael Walls, who stood up for his community and other rural Tasmanians affected by this decision.

“Michael’s persistence helped shine a light on the practical impact this decision was having, and I thank him for his efforts in achieving this outcome.

“This is a good example of what can be achieved when regional communities make their voices heard and businesses are prepared to listen and respond.

“Our Government will always stand up for rural and regional Tasmanians and ensure their voices are heard."
