The new restaurant at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens has officially reopened after extensive renovations over the past two years.
Minister for Parks, Nick Duigan, said this is a very exciting time of renewal for the gardens.
“The restaurant refurbishment is a significant part of the Tasmanian Government’s $7.6m upgrade - the biggest in the garden’s history,” Minister Duigan said.
“Nationally renowned winery, Bird in Hand, will operate the food facilities, including the restaurant, tasting room and kiosk.
“As part of the lease, Tasmania’s outstanding, and diverse, produce will be on show.
“The winery already has strong ties to Tasmania with vineyards in the north and on the east coast.
“This partnership will establish the Gardens as a premier food and beverage destination for the next decade and will feature both casual and fine dining options, bespoke event spaces, and retail wine offerings.”
“More than 400,000 people visit the gardens each year, with this partnership delivering for Tasmania by further enhancing the State’s visitor experience.”
“The Gardens play an important role in Tasmania’s visitor economy, with growth in visitation consistent with the overall increase in visitors to the State.”
Works on the upgrades of the visitor centre and existing restaurant facilities began in October 2025.
Works already completed include the Welcome Hub and safety and accessibility improvements.
The Visitor Experience Project is expected to be completed later this year.
