Guy Barnett, Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs

The Tasmanian Government is working closely with the small business community to strengthen the next stage of Tasmania’s Small Business Growth Strategy.

Speaking at a Tasmanian Small Business Council industry event last night, Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, underlined the importance of delivering a strategy alongside industry.

“The event was all about listening. It was about understanding the challenges and opportunities that have emerged since our last round of consultation four years ago and hearing what support small businesses will benefit from most over the decade ahead,” Minister Barnett said.

“The insights shared at the session add yet another valuable perspective to the broader consultation process.

“The feedback we received will help us build a strong, practical and future focused strategy – one that solidifies government and private sector priorities and sets the foundations for a thriving Tasmanian small business sector over the next 10 years.”

The next stage of the Small Business Growth Strategy will cover a 10-year period from January 2027 through to December 2036.

The strategy establishes the objectives to help the government and the private sector to deliver the things that matter to Tasmanians, like supporting business growth in Tasmania.

Consultation on the strategy remains open until 15 May.
