Eric Abetz, Treasurer
The Tasmanian Government is delivering for small businesses by making liquor licencing simpler and faster, moving applications, renewals, and payments online.
Treasurer Eric Abetz said a Request for Tender to deliver the new digital system was now open.
“Whether you are running a small bar, a winery, a tourism business or an event, we want to make things simpler, faster and fairer,” the Treasurer said.
“This online portal will streamline the process, allowing users to submit forms, upload documents, and check the progress of their application at any time.
“Not only will this make it easier for businesses and community organisations to manage their requirements, but it will help improve the efficiency of licensing and compliance management across the State.”
The new system supports the Tasmanian Government's overhaul of the State’s liquor laws into the 21st century by removing outdated rules and making sure businesses can operate in a way that makes sense today.
“Community safety and order are always front of mind when considering changes such as this, but often the red tape and delays serve no useful purpose whatsoever,” the Treasurer said.
"By streamlining and modernising existing licencing, permits and legislation, we can make doing business easier.
“This new system will be designed with flexibility in mind, allowing new licence and permit types to be added as laws and policies are updated.
"We’re delivering for Tasmanians by cutting red tape."
The tender is now open and will close on 11 June 2026.
