Nick Duigan, Minister for Sport
Tasmania’s newest and largest multipurpose sport facility is gearing up for its next stage with even more courts set to be built.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the expansion will offer even more recreation space and opportunities for the community.
“The Stage 3 Expansion will see the delivery of four additional indoor multipurpose courts with sprung timber floors suitable for basketball and netball at the rear of the hub,” Minister Duigan said.
“This will take the total number of indoor courts in this incredible new facility to 11, which will have a significant and positive impact on sport in Launceston.
“We have reached a major milestone for the facility, with a hub expansion development application now open for public viewing.”
The Hub Stage 3 Expansion is an $18.9 million project funded by the Tasmanian Government.
“The expansion will complement the 10,000sqm hub’s existing facilities, which opened last month and includes a wide range of activities such as rock climbing, gymnastics, boxing and weightlifting,” Minister Duigan said.
“The hub caters for people of all ages and abilities, and a variety of sports associations and leagues.
“Beyond sport, it provides spaces for youth engagement, community education and counselling, and the capacity to host community gatherings of up to 800 people, truly making it a hub for the entire community.”
Construction of the Stage 3 Expansion is expected to commence later this year, pending council approvals.
