More than $213,000 is now available for local ideas to improve road safety in our communities through the Community Road Safety Grants Program.

Community groups and local governments are being encouraged to apply for the latest round of funding for grassroots initiatives to improve road safety outcomes across Tasmania.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said the program empowered communities to play an active role in improving road safety.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility and the Community Road Safety Grants Program gives communities the opportunity to take action on issues important to them,” Minister Vincent said.

“Every death or serious injury on our roads is one too many, and everyone has a part to play in keeping Tasmanians safe.”

In 2025, there were 44 people killed and a further 278 people seriously injured on our roads in Tasmania.

Minister Vincent said community organisations and local governments could apply for up to $35,000 to deliver community-based road safety projects and awareness initiatives.

“In previous years we have supported projects such as learner driver education resources, child restraint checks, motorcycle safety programs and tourist road safety signage,” Minister Vincent said.

“The program also supported a Kentish Council project to reseal and widen a section of Staverton Road outside Sheffield, as well as add warning signs, flexible guideposts and centrelines to make the road safer.”

This section of road had six crashes between 2015-20, mostly caused by lane departures.

“All these projects were brought to us by locals, were affordable and had a direct impact on local roads and to local driver behaviour – and we want these ideas to keep coming.

“Our Government is delivering for Tasmanians, and by supporting locally-driven solutions, we can work together to deliver safer roads for everyone.”

Applications for the 2025-2026 funding round are now open and close 29 May 2026.
