Tasmanian landmarks will be illuminated in purple on Tuesday to mark the centenary of the birth of Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Born 21 April 1926, the late Queen’s 70-year reign was the longest in British history.
Defined by resilience and an unwavering commitment to duty, she remained a symbol of stability from her accession in 1952 until her passing in 2022.
Deputy Premier Guy Barnett said the lighting tribute reflected the deep respect Tasmanians hold for the late monarch’s legacy of service.
“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II embodied dignity and devotion throughout a life dedicated to the Commonwealth,” the Deputy said.
“Her Majesty visited Tasmania seven times during her reign, serving as a special memory for many.
“As we commemorate the 100th anniversary of her birth, these illuminations serve as a reminder of the values she championed and the grace with which she led.”

The centenary of Her Majesty’s birth follows her extraordinary 70‑year reign, after which she was succeeded by her eldest son, King Charles III.
