The Justice and Related Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2026 has been tabled in the House of Assembly.

The Bill seeks to amend five pieces of legislation that relate to the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TASCAT).

Attorney-General, Guy Barnett, said our Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmanians.

“This Bill will slash red tape, in some cases saving Tasmanians seeking access to justice hundreds of dollars by ensuring matters are heard in a lower cost stream of TASCAT,” the Attorney said.

“By streamlining this process and slashing red tape, we are providing greater access to justice for Tasmanians.

“This Bill reflects our Government’s commitment to continuous improvement across our justice system, providing greater clarity and consistency across the law.”

The Bill seeks to amend:

  • Local Government (Highways) Act 1982;
  • Local Government Act 1993;
  • Retirement Villages Act 2004;
  • Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act 2020; and
  • Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Regulations 2021

“Our Government is delivering for Tasmania by cutting red tape and increasing access to justice.”
