Jane Howlett, Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events

Hobart will welcome international ice hockey for the first time, with the Canada vs USA Ice Hockey Classic kicking off its 2026 Australian series at MyState Bank Arena this July.

Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Jane Howlett, said the games were a strong addition to Tasmania’s sporting calendar.

“This is a great opportunity for Tasmanians to enjoy world-class international ice hockey for the first time in their own backyard,” Minister Howlett said.

“It’s so important for our young people to have the opportunity to see elite athletes in action.

“We also know events like this help attract visitors to the State and provide a welcome boost for our visitor economy during the winter period.

“Our Government is delivering for Tasmania by keeping our economy strong and providing inspiration for the next generation of players.”

MyState Bank Arena will be transformed into a world-class ice hockey venue for two games on 3 and 4 July.

More than 30 players are expected to travel from North America, with full team lineups to be announced closer to the event.

Tickets for both Hobart games will go on sale via Ticketek, with presale commencing on 7 April and general public tickets on sale from 8 April.
