Connecting Tasmania’s exporters and the global markets they serve has taken another step forward with Hobart Airport locked in as the Tasmanian Export Awards 2026 Major Partner.
Now in its 32nd year, the Tasmanian Export Awards highlights businesses successfully exporting Tasmanian goods and services to the world, creating jobs and supporting economic growth.
Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, said Tasmania’s exporters continue to attract significant attention from both the nation and the world.
“Tasmania’s overseas merchandise exports were worth $4.7 billion in the year to February 2026, reflecting the strength and diversity of our export economy,” Minister Barnett said.
“We’re working together with industry to bring the world to Tasmania and supporting exporters on the ground.
“Hobart Airport plays a vital role in helping Tasmanian exporters get their products to market, particularly for high value, time sensitive goods such as seafood, fresh produce and premium agricultural products.
“The Tasmanian Export Awards recognise excellence and encourage more businesses to explore export markets. If you’re a Tasmanian business exporting internationally, I encourage you to apply and showcase your success.”
With more than $400 million being invested, Hobart Airport is strengthening its role as a gateway for passengers and freight, supporting widebody aircraft operations to Asia, expanding terminal and transport infrastructure, and delivering new logistics capability.
Hobart Airport CEO, Norris Carter, said the investments would deliver major gains for Tasmania’s export sector.
“The runway upgrade will enable larger aircraft to fly to and from the state and significantly boost our freight capacity – a game changer for local exporting businesses,” Mr Carter said.
“Enhanced access to international markets will help Tasmanian exporters grow, compete globally, and attain higher prices for their products.
“Through the $200-million terminal expansion, we’re creating a truly Tasmanian welcome for our visitors, showcasing the best exports our state has on offer.”
Nominations for the Tasmanian Export Awards 2026 are now open and close on Friday, 12 June 2026.
Winners will be announced at a gala event in Launceston on Friday, 18 September 2026, with national category winners progressing to the Australian Export Awards later in the year.
