Tasmanians are invited to have their say on the draft Bay of Fires Masterplan, which sets out a roadmap for managing the area’s natural and cultural values for the next 15 years.

Acting Minister for Parks Madeleine Ogilvie said the consultation period runs through to 6 May 2026 and includes a series of community sessions.

“Opening of public consultation follows extensive community and stakeholder engagement through 2025,” Minister Ogilvie said.

“The draft plan was developed in collaboration with Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and Break O’Day Council.

“The Bay of Fires is renowned for its magnificent coastline and is home to some of Tasmania’s most beautiful beaches.

“It is critical that we sustainably manage tourism growth while protecting and enhancing the natural, cultural, social and economic values of this much-loved area.

“Importantly, the development of the Masterplan will be informed by the views of residents and those who frequent the area.”

The Plan aims to deliver a high-quality environmentally, economically and socially sustainable Bay of Fires experience for the next 15 years by:

  • Protecting and enhancing its natural environment and cultural values
  • Responding to the needs of the community and residents
  • Improving the visitor experience

A series of stakeholder and community engagement sessions will be delivered by consultants Hansen Partnership at the end of April. The public is invited to attend the open community sessions on the following dates:

  • Binalong Bay community – Tuesday 21 April, from 5.30pm – 7pm at the Binalong Bay fire station.
  • Ansons Bay community – Wednesday 22 April, from 5.30pm – 7pm at the Ansons Bay fire station.
