Gavin Pearce, Minister for Primary Industries and Water
The Tasmanian Government is working with farmers, agribusiness and rural support organisations to develop a new long-term Agriculture Strategy, supporting growth, resilience and innovation across the sector.
The development of the Strategy is one step closer, with the Agriculture Strategy Consultation Summary Report being released today, along with stakeholder submissions on the Discussion Paper which was published in late 2025.
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, said our Government is delivering for Tasmanians and the industries that keep our economy strong.
“This Strategy will map out the future of agriculture in Tasmania, and we have worked closely with industry to get to this point,” Minister Pearce said.
“Submission reflected many shared priorities for the agricultural sector across a wide range of industries and enterprises.
“Themes raised include innovation and adoption, easier agribusiness, people and skills, logistics and infrastructure, resilience and biosecurity, sustainability, and markets and value-adding.
“We know that we need to work together to move our state forward – and that’s what this Strategy is all about.”
The development of the new long-term strategy comes five years after the release of the Competitiveness of Tasmanian Agriculture for 2050 White Paper.
“Agriculture is a pillar of Tasmania’s economy, with a farm-gate value of nearly $2.5 billion in 2022-23,” Minister Pearce said.
“The collective achievements of farmers, agribusinesses, industry groups, researchers, rural communities and Government has allowed us to remain on track to reach our AgriVision 2050 target to grow the annual farm gate value of agriculture to $10 billion by 2050.”
Next steps for the development of the Strategy include a roundtable and industry meetings to explore key areas of opportunity ahead of its expected released later this year.
