Guy Barnett, Deputy Premier
The Tasmanian Government has launched statewide consultations to inform the next Tasmanian Trade Strategy 2030.
Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, said the Strategy will build on the success of the 2019–2025 Trade Strategy and help shape the next chapter of Tasmania’s global trade story.
“This marks the start of an important conversation with industry, business leaders, educators and the community on how we can take Tasmanian trade to the next level,” Minister Barnett said.
“Our first Trade Strategy guided exporters through unprecedented disruptions, from COVID-19 to shifting global markets.
“The new Strategy will set the course for the years ahead, helping Tasmanian exporters diversify, grow and remain resilient in an increasingly competitive world.
“We know Tasmania has what the world wants - from premium food and agribusiness to renewable energy, international education, advanced manufacturing, and creative industries.
“This Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania.
“We are working together to move our state forward and this Strategy can only succeed if it reflects the experience and ambition of our exporters.
“I look forward to hearing directly from industry and working together to ensure Tasmania’s trade continues creating jobs and growing our economy.”
Consultation roundtables will continue throughout September in Burnie, Launceston and St Helens, with the first held in Hobart. These will be supported by an online survey and consultation paper to encourage wide participation.
The Tasmanian Trade Strategy 2030 will be live in 2026, setting a high-level direction to strengthen Tasmania’s global presence and expand opportunities for exporters over the next five years.
